The official launch of the Department of Foreign Trade Policy website (laoftpd.com) took place on 05 February 2019, at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The event was co-chaired by Mr. Saysana Saiyakone, Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade Policy, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Mr. Daniel Fitzpatrick, the Project Director/Chief of Party of USAID LUNA2, and attended by more than 45 invited guests from related line ministries.
Mr. Saysana said this successful venture came about in response to need for high quality foreign trade policy resources in the public sphere. The site will provide essential information about foreign trade policies, including: trade negotiation; agreements; legislation; trade statistic; E-library; and news. He also mentioned that the Department of Foreign Trade Policy (DFTP) and the Lao-US international and ASEAN Integration Project (USAID LUNA 2) jointly develop the site to make it faster with the modern layout and design. The primary purpose of creating this site is to enable policy makers, researchers and business operators to access the latest trade policies and updates on industry practices.
The site contains all information related to the trade negotiation and agreements of entities, particularly World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including essential information on foreign trade policy in Laos. The designers believe this site will act as an avenue linking Lao citizens with international trade experts, which promotes the Lao integration with the wider economic community.
The site is available in two languages: English and Lao, you can visit at www.laoftpd.com
